AM623: Wear OS support on top of AM6x and Android SDK

Hi TI

Can you please clarify if Sitara Android SDK would be able to supprot Wear OS on top of low power AM6x series?

If the customer wants to download Wear OS AOSP source and install f/w binary in AM6x, would it be difficult to create Wear OS F/W for Smart Watch using Android SDK and drivers.

Please give us your opinion on the applicability or difficulty related to Wear OS.

Hi Jack,

Android Wear OS was not supported on Sitara and not plan to do it .

As we know no aosp version (no recent version) was done for Wear variant so you need to check with google to have access and so you need to be google compliance if you want to support Wear OS variant.

2. The current release of android for AM62 is based on Android 13

3. As per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wear_OS#Wear_OS Android 13 is compatible with Wear OS 4.0.

Adding to comment from Guillaume above,

While there is a compatibility between Android AOSP version to Wear OS variation, The optimizations , compliance , UI experience and enabling wear OS specific HALs are significantly different and AM62 family of devices based on A53 is not evaluated for that currently.

As you know Wear OS is based on the closed source code policy as Google to approve access permission.

Customer considers A35 core based Low Power MPU rather than A53 based AM62x. The Competitor supplier would promote 8ULP for Smart Watch solution as it support Wear OS.

Hope that TI should be able to support Wear OS with future devices. Lower grade than AM62x which should not be mentioned in public yet.
