TDA4VH-Q1: I have a question about native driver

Part Number: TDA4VH-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA4VH

Hi experts,

I am currently using the TDA4VH development board with SDK 8.6. I used the switch mode in native driver for testing.

I have a question: When using the switch mode under the native driver, it is necessary to use it together with the bridge.

So, is the forwarding function performed by the CPSW hardware or by the software protocol stack in the bridge?

My understanding is that it directly forwards through MAC addresses in the switch hardware,

is that correct?

regards

  • Hi Matthew,

Your understanding is correct, but a bridge is needed to configure the switch from linux. Linux provides a "switchdev" framework with which you can configure various aspects of the switch. The framework is used on the bridge interface, hence a bridge is necessary.

Otherwise the forwarding can be configured from driver as well, but it won't be possible to control it at runtime.
