TDA4VM vs AM69A for AI Box

Hi Team,

I have a customer who is interested in using TI Solution for AI Box application. I was looking at TDA4VM and AM69A. Understand that AM69A is focused primarily on smart vision camera application, but I also saw that we have TDA4VM which is also capable for AI Box application.

Here is my question:

1. The AM6xA family and TDA4x family seems to have similar capabilities, what is their distinct difference?

2. If my customer is just looking to build a basic AI box for smart home, will TDA4x be sufficient?

3. How do I enable Wifi or BLE connection for our Edge AI solutions? Is there any application notes or guideline on this?

4. Any application notes on our Hardware and Network Accelerator?

Hi Ernest:

AM6xA family has wider scalability and Linux-focused for industrial broad market. TDA4 add real-time control and safety, recommended for projects that require it.
For basic AI box for smart home, TDA4 is more than sufficient. In fact, AM62A/68A/69A would likely be a better and more efficient fit (we have design wins with these in AI Box already). Please have a look at technology landing page to understand portfolio: ti.com/edgeai

Hi Ernest,

For 3, we have some out-of-box demos using a WiFi card (sold separately). We have some utility scripts that would allow you to configure SSID/password as well as configuring the SK board as an access point, and I recommend reading this SDK documentation that goes into details about these scripts: https://software-dl.ti.com/jacinto7/esd/processor-sdk-linux-edgeai/TDA4VM/09_00_00/exports/edgeai_docs/devices/TDA4VM/linux/wifi_oob_demo.html.

For 4, I am not quite sure which hardware accelerator is of interest (aka, if the interest is network acceleration, or just hardware accelerator in general). However, I would recommend looking through some of our example pipelines from our EdgeAI SDK that has some dataflow diagrams showing which accelerators can be used in a typical application: https://software-dl.ti.com/jacinto7/esd/processor-sdk-linux-edgeai/TDA4VM/09_00_00/exports/edgeai_docs/common/edgeai_dataflows.html.
