DM816x EVM: I2C EEPROM

1) What is the purpose of the I2C EEPROM (U12) on the DM8168 eval board? As we dont support I2C boot on DM816x, my understanding is this is intended for storing board information etc to validate compatibility with  different daughter card.

2) If the customer do not want to populate I2C EEPROM, can functionality in 1) be moved into SPI flash/EEPROM device?

Thanks in advance,

Prateek

  • Prateek,

We are planning to use the I2C EEPROM for board name and revision identification. Future device EVMs will have this information programmed into the EEPROM.  The customer does not need to populate the I2C EEPROM as long as their software does not require the board name and revision identification information that will be stored in it.  So far, the SDK has not taken advantage of the I2C EEPROM.
