OMAP3530EVM NFS File System Fail

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7846, PMP

Hi,

I tried TFTP boot & NFS file system on OMAP3530EVM using DVSDK v4.01.
After TFTP boot, I got u-boot message below.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could you please help me what should I do?
I made the u-boot variables using the script, ${DVSDK}/bin/setup-uboot-env.sh.

Thanks in advance for your coopration.

Best regards,
j-breeze

  • Can you share complete boot log, so that it would be easier to understand the setup and errors (if any)?

    Thanks,

    Vaibhav

  • Vaibhav-san,

    Thank you for your e-mail.
    The below is the complete boot log. Could you please check it?

  • Hi j-breeze

    what are bootargs you have set? probably set a static ip rather than dhcp.

    Best Regards

    Prabhakar Lad

  • How did this ever get resolved? I am experiencing the same error with the C6A816x evaluation board.

    I had been using the evaluation board previously on a large network w/o issues.  We changed into a smaller network and I also moved my office network behind a small router to prevent my work from conflicting with the office network. Now when I try to load my NFS share I get the "DHCP/BOOTP:  Ignoring delayed packet" error.

    This is my environment:

    TI8168_EVM#printenv
    verify=yes
    ramdisk_file=ramdisk.gz
    loadaddr=0x81000000
    script_addr=0x80900000
    loadbootscript=fatload mmc 1 ${script_addr} boot.scr
    bootscript= echo Running bootscript from MMC/SD to set the ENV...; source ${script_addr}
    ethaddr=90:d7:eb:95:95:32
    ethact=DaVinci EMAC
    bootdelay=4
    baudrate=115200
    autoload=no
    oldbootfile=uImage
    bootfile=uImage-dm816x-evm.bin
    bootargs=console=ttyO2,115200n8 rootwait rw mem=256M earlyprintk vram=50M ti816xfb.vram=0:16M,1:16M,2:6M root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=192.168.1.100:/home/c6A186x/targetfs ip=dhcp
    serverip=192.168.1.100
    bootcmd=dhcp;setenv serverip 192.168.1.100;tftpboot;bootm
    stdin=serial
    stdout=serial
    stderr=serial
    ver=U-Boot 2010.06 (Jun 01 2011 - 12:30:57)

    Any suggestions?

  • First a couple of assumptions on my part.  You have a tftp server running on the machine 192.168.1.100 and the tftpboot command is working okay.  And you are counting on the DHCP server of the new router to provide IP addresses.

    The first command in bootcmd is "dhcp" and you have "autoload=no".  So this should get IP addresses for the subsequent "tftpboot" command, but the "dhcp" command does not load the images.  The "setenv serverip x.x.x.x" part of bootcmd is redudant since it is already saved to that value.  The "tftpboot" command is the one that actually pulls the kernel image from the tftp server.

    I have seen routers that will perform the expected dhcp function in u-boot and then fail during Linux boot.  I would be interested to see a complete boot log where you would stop u-boot and issue the boot commands individually -- dhcp -- tftpboot -- bootm.

    My best guess is that the dhcp server on the router is not running at boot time.

    Greg

  •

    This is a posting of the requested steps "dhcp -- tftpboot -- bootm".

    The sequence fails at the "tftpboot" step. It appears the dhcp command overwrites the serverip address. I corrected this issue and repeated the steps within the second section of this posting.

    I tried changing the IP addressing of the target to static, modifying the bootargs, bootcmd, and assigning a static IP address.  The boot failed at the same point. The kernel was sending DHCP requests even though I had assigned a static IP address. This occurred using the tftpboot --- bootm. I expected the target to keep the static address, not send a DHCP request.

  • Okay, using a static IP address should work if the problem really is the new router.  But I still see "ip=dhcp" in your bootargs.  That is why you are getting the DHCP requests in the Linux boot.  Keep the static IP addresses and change that the "ip=dhcp" to "ip=none" in bootargs.

  •

    Thank you for the help. I reconfigured my office network to be on the larger company network which resolves my problem. The use of "dhcp" for u-boot and the kernel works w/o any errors.

    I would like to "close" this posting thread. However, the original problem, using the c6a816x evaluation board and dhcp behind a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router, is still unresolved (2.6.37 kernel, u-boot-2010.06-psp04.00.00.10) .  A DM355 test fixture, 2.6.10 kernel, worked fine with dhcp behind the Linksys. I shouldn't be spending anymore time on this problem.

    It does appear the use of static IP addresses isn't working within the c6A816x evaluation board. I will retest to verify and open a new posting if true.

    What tag should I use for the c6A816x evaluation board?

    Once again, thanks for the help.

  • You can put a new post on the Integra Forum.

    http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/integra_dsparm/default.aspx

    There are plenty of tags specifically for c6a816x.
