TDA4VM: GPMC Parallel NOR Software/Hardware Compatibility

We are designing a custom board and are checking on requirements. There is a need for parallel NOR support due to a legacy system requirement. The flash memory in use is S29GL256P. We do not need boot support but do need it to be accessible from main or DSP cores in some manner.

Thanks for clarification. Is the GPMC hardware on TDA4VM the same as previous TI SOCs like AM335x or AM57x? I have found some examples for those chips. Is there any plan to have official TI GPMC support for TDA4VM in the future?

There is no plan to support GPMC on TDA4VM as of now.

I looked at the IP registers for GPMC on AM57 and TDA4VM, it looks the same but the integration with the SoC will definitely be different - IRQs, Clocks, Resets and interface to the external memory. So porting examples from the older devices is not advisable.

What order of latencies are we talking about? I'm assuming the use case is a non-volatile low latency memory for some data logging?

Thanks for the info regarding the older drivers.

I don't have specific latency numbers off hand but the original intended application is for a real-time motion control system. The parallel memory is a hard requirement due to already being integrated into other hardware.

Older TI DSPs had robust parallel GPMC support so I was hoping the TDA4VM would fit our use case. Do you know what the most the most recent DSP with software parallel NOR GPMC support would be?

Apologies for the delay, I checked with the team and as mentioned we do not have support for GPMC NOR on the TD4VM SDK. On the question wrt referencing older SDKs for this, can you please comment on which core is intended to access the flash, cores running Linux or RTOS?

RTOS would be the primary method of accessing the flash, preferably from either C6x or C7x DSP cores.
