SK-AM69: Support J721EXENETXPANEVM

Part Number: SK-AM69
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: J721EXENETXPANEVM, AM69, J784S4XEVM

Does SK-AM69 support J721EXENETXPANEVM?

If so, does the latest Processor SDK Linux support SK-AM69 with J721EXENETXPANEVM?

The expansion connectors seem to be compatible with each other. SGMII2 is used via an expansion connector.

  • Hi Daisuke

I don't think we've use the J721EXENETXPANEVM expansion board with the starter kit, but I've asked my colleague to confirm. They will be able to respond here.

    Regards

    Karan

  • Hi Daisuke,

This is something that is compatible via the ENET header but is not supported out of the box. Please reference the SK-AM69 User Guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spruj70

    Thank you,

    Fabiana

  • Hi Fabiana-san,

    Thank you for you reply.

J784S4XG01EVM with J721EXENETXPANEVM will be supported in Processor SDK Linux. The DTS file "k3-j784s4-quad-port-eth1-exp.dts" seems to support it.

J784S4XG01EVM has two expansion connectors, and it seems that SGMII7 or SGMII8 can be used with J721EXENETXPANEVM via the expansion connector.

Could you please tell me how to modify Processor SDK Linux to use SK-AM69 with J721EXENETXPANEVM?

Does it only change the SGMII port used for SK-AM69?

Or is it difficult because different boards have different traces and the SerDes configuration needs to be changed?

    Best regards,

    Daisuke

    Yes.

Yes, at a time, you can use one of the two expansion connector to connect to quad Ethernet expansion board.

The support for SK-AM69 to use with J721EXENETXPANEVM is not validated and supported by the Processor SDK Linux. We will check internally and get back to you with answers to your query.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Praveen-san,

Thank you for your support. Our customer is waiting for your update.

Please give me an answer as soon as possible. Your prompt reply would be appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Daisuke

  • Hello Daisuke-san,

We had checked our team internally, and there is near term plan to support this as part of the Processor SDK Linux release. If here is a strong push for this feature from the customer, we can take up this discussion with business team .

Based on this we can file a requirement to be support this feature as part of the SDK.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Praveen-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

When is the near term plan? How many months away?

Our customer wants to know how to modify the current Processor SDK Linux to use SK-AM69 with J721EXENETXPANEVM. They want to change to the SGMII port used for SK-AM69. Could you please tell me how?

    Best regards,

    Daisuke

  • Hello Daisuke-san,

The requirements for this feature is not in the system and the current software roadmap till March 2024 does not have this noted.

Our customer wants to know how to modify the current Processor SDK Linux to use SK-AM69 with J721EXENETXPANEVM. They want to change to the SGMII port used for SK-AM69. Could you please tell me how?

We'll check on this and get back to you.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Daisuke-san,

Checked internally and currently there is no requirement and plan to support the CPSW9G ethernet driver with the 721EXENETXPANEVM QSGMII board on SK-AM69.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Praveen-san,

Thank you for your reply. Sorry for the late reply.

Our customer wants to test the quad ethernet ports for CPSW9G on AM69.

How to test the quad ethernet ports for CPSW9G on AM69?

Should our customer use J784S4XEVM instead of SK-AM69 to test the quad Ethernet ports?

Is the CPSW9G on AM69 and TDA4xH the same?

    Best regards,

    Daisuke

  • Hello Daisuke-san,

Yes, the customer make use of the https://www.ti.com/tool/J784S4XEVM board.  CPSW9G on AM69 and TDA4xH are the same.

This board can be used to  test the quad ethernet ports for CPSW9G on AM69. Also, the SDKs listed https://www.ti.com/product/TDA4AH-Q1#software-development support the quad ethernet ports for CPSW9G.

    Thanks.
