Audio Codec test application for DM365

Hi!
Typically, the Linux system is active only one codec.
For example, DM365EVM board has an external AIC3101 codec, while inside the DM365 has a built-voice codec. When compiling the kernel Linux, you need to select a codec: OR internal OR external.
When the kernel detect the codec, it becomes part of the audio subsystem ALSA. And you can use standard tools to record and play sound.

The easiest way to test the codec is to use 'arecord' to record wav-file, and 'aplay' to play wav-file.

Record example:

target# arecord -t wav -f S16_LE -r 16000 -c 1 -d 10 test.wav

where:

-t = type of file (wav)

-f = format (S16_LE = signed 16 bit Little Endian)

-r = sampling rate (16000 = 16kHz)

-c = channels (1 = mono)

-d = duration (10 = 10sec)

Playback example:

target# aplay test.wav

(format, rate, duration - these parameters are taken from the wav-file header)

The second way is to create your simple application using ALSA.

The test application should be used only after you have verified that the sound works through the standard tools 'arecord' and 'aplay' (see above).

Using ALSA in your application is not difficult.
I have my source code a simple application to record and play sound. I can share it here. (I now need to dig in the archives on a flash drive to find them).

1) to build, use '-lasound' option for linker (see README.txt).

2) Be sure that codec mic input is on (use linux tool 'amixer' to turn on mic input for your codec)

I think that you do not need to change the "default" to another name.

In my case, all is good if name is "default".

There is only one sound device in your system.

Check it by type...
ls -l /proc/asound

To see main soundcard, type...
ls -l /proc/asound/ | grep '^l'

To see only name, type...
ls -l /proc/asound/ | grep '^l' | cut -d: -f2 | awk '{print $2}'

By the way! Try to compile the source code and run them on Linux host (for example on your Ubuntu). In theory it should work.
