LP-AM263: PRU-ICSS Support for AM263x Launchpad

Hi,

I'm working on PRU-ICSS core of AM263x Launcpad. From the SDK Ver 9.0.0, I've got an example code of SENT encoder /decoder application, however there is minimal documentation for the same provided along with the example.

Also, for trying out this code, I would require two launchpad connected together.

Is there any working example supported for AM263x wherein we can configure GPIO in PRU core and get the data in R5 core, or similar examples which I can try out in the launchpad, with some good documentation?

Hi Sreeraj,

You can just use Sent encoder application only, which just does simple gpio writes to generate SENT pattern.

So example folder contains the r5f side code which does pinmux, board and driver initialization and a while loop which just signals pru to send one sent frame when even "y" is input on uart terminal

Firmware folder has the actual firmware code which has specific code to generate sent pulses, which you can modify to do gpio toggle.

For going through the basics on PRU please use this: AM243x MCU+ SDK: PRU IO (ti.com)

Also go through the TRM of am263x to understand more about basic pru functionality.

Thanks for the quick reply! The solution is really helpful.

I have one more doubt. In the encoder/decoder example and the examples that you provided, we use

PRUICSS_writeMemory()

function to write firmware image to PRU memory. I've seen the image data defined in an array.

How we are forming that array of data?

This array is generated by the firmware project, as a part of post build step it gets copied into the example folder, please check the make file of firmware project. Let me know in case you need more clarification

Thanks for the information. I checked the encoder/decoder example and I could relate your comment to that.

However, I'm still stuck in "PRU_driver_example" which you had given earlier. If we are writing a PRU driver code of our own, could you please give me the steps to form the image array for

PRUICSS_writeMemory()

function. I tried to write a driver code on my own and I was not able to form that array.

The process of converting the binary to array is done by PRU hex utility tool:

Please note this can be done via ccs using the above link or if you want to use command line then refer to post build proceess step mentioned in sent encoder makefile for firmware project:
