Android GingerBread 2.3 - TI816xevm video problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3894

Hi,

My team (IMP-Telecommunications) is member of TI design house network. We currently design COM module based on TI AM3894 SoC. We are planing to port Android 2.3 DevKit 2.0 on our board. We are currently testing Android 2.3 DevKit 2.0 on Spectrum Digital EVM 816x.
I have a problem when running video stream with Android integrated video player. Video that I run is in resolution 480P, encoded with mp4 (Quick Time), and it's not running smoothly like I suppose it should, or am I wrong? Screen resolution is HD 1080P. And I can see that Android interface is slow. My other question is what are the expectations when maximum video resolution is concerned, what maximum video resolution is our system capable to run smoothly?
Maybe if I reduce screen resolution to 720P (which I, for now, didn't had success to do) maybe then video stream won't run with such problems.

King regards,
Srdjan

  • Hi,

Can you please try the default videos in our pre-built package http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_tii/TI_Android_DevKit/TI_Android_GingerBread_2_3_DevKit_2_0/exports/AM389X_TI816X.tar.gz

Generally higher resolution videos don't play good, they need accelerator. But any thing around VGA should be good.

  • Hi Khasim,

thank you for your quick reply. I tried those videos you suggested (around VGA resolution) they do run ok, but I thought that higher resolutions are also possible to run. Because those VGA videos don't look "impressive" when you run them on system in 1080P resolution.

    Regards,
