AM6442: SK-AM64B USB host mode boot is not proceeding to u-boot

Part Number: AM6442
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SK-AM64B

Dear TI team,

I attempted to boot the SK-AM64B board using a USB mass storage device, specifically the SanDisk Cruzade - 16GB. I adjusted the boot switches according to the instructions found in the TRM and SK-AM64B user guide, setting SW2.8, SW3.2, SW3.4, SW3.7, and SW3.8 to the 'ON' position, while leaving the others in the 'OFF' position. I then proceeded to flash the provided filesystem from SDK 9.0 release onto the USB device, mirroring the SD card flashing process using Balena Etcher.

Subsequently, I connected the USB device to the port and powered on the board. Regrettably, I encountered an error message (please see below) indicating that the boot process had failed, and it did not progress to the u-boot for further steps. I'm in need of assistance in identifying the underlying issue. Could you please provide guidance on resolving this problem?"

  • Hi Chris,

Due to Errata i2328, USB MSC boot in U-Boot is not validated. But please check the link below, it seems another customer had the same problem, but resolved by a U-Boot dts change.

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1279456/sk-am64b-sk-am64b-booting-with-usb-pen-drive

  • Thanks Bin LIu. Let me check the work around. Can we expect a fix in the upcoming SDK release

  • Hi Chris,

Currently there is no requirement in place to enable USB MSC boot for AM64x due to errata i2328.

But please let me know if this code change resolves the failure for you, then we might request to implement it in the next SDK.

  • Dear Bin Liu,

Yes, the above code changes resolved my case. I had not done any extensive tests, but i am able to reach at the uboot prompt and successfully booted to linux login. Here is the log
