AM5728: Jailhouse or alternative for Linux+TI-RTOS combo

I originally had a question about MMAP when using Jailhouse. When checking to see if the question was already asked, I ran across several terse responses that Jailhouse was no longer supported in newer SDKs. It looks like this was removed in 8.02.00 (along with openCL & openCV).

Was there an explanation for this? I saw a reference to building the latest SDK using the jailhouse recipe (1.2.3.3), so does that mean it's still a possibility?

We're about to start porting a design to run on the AM5728 and we were planning to have one A15 core running linux for higher-level functionality and the other A15 core running TI-RTOS for hard real-time control code. Jailhouse seemed like a good fit for this. Is there a newer, recommended alternative to Jailhouse?

Hello Andrew,

Jailhouse Hypervisor was de-scoped due to lack of market traction and limited resources.

Apologies for the confusion. Our documentation is built in batches for multiple platforms (SoCs), this is a bug in our documentation explaining that there is a jailhouse recipe. This is more than likely meant for another SoC family.

The release notes for AM57x SD do correctly state that this feature was removed.

We are filing this as a bug and will work on fixing it in our next release later this year which will only update the Linux kernel and take care of minuter bug fixes. No new features will be added.

I appreciate the reference to QNX, but I'm curious if there are any TI-supported approaches to running linux on one A15 core and TI-RTOS on the other? I did see a reference to running the A15 cores in AMP mode (https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1233061/am5728-virtualization-sdk-linux-for-am57x-08_02_01_00), but I'm trying to understand what would be involved in getting that configured, how the cores would handle shared resources like timers, MMU, etc.

Also, is there any kind of roadmap that shows likely targets for future "descoping"? I'm surprised to see something like Jailhouse (which was listed as a "Foundational Component") would disappear without warning.

There is no TI-supported approach for virtualization. The response on that thread was a suggestion on how it could be done in general but the implementation is not offered by TI.

At this moment there is no public roadmap, only the release notes for a specific release. If you have an NDA with TI then you can reach out to your local sales representatives for any additional information not available publicly.
