OMAP3525: Move from synchronous to asynchronous NOR flash for booting.

Part Number: OMAP3525

Hello e2e Team,

Please help my customer with the following issue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PROBLEM: Currently, their device boots from the Micron PC28F256P30BFE (256 Mbit) parallel NOR flash, but this part will be discontinued. In looking for alternatives with the distributor, they could not find any synchronous NOR flash, only asynchronous. This solution isn't ideal, because it might implicate many changes to their layout and software.

QUESTION: Do you have suggestions on how to deal with this issue (e.g. part recommendations)?

I see that OMAP3525 supports asynchronous communication as well, so I'm wondering if they couldn’t simply switch modes within the MPU? I hope this might not impact their layout/software substantially, since they’re switching from synchronous to asynchronous and not the other way around.

Thanks for your time and support!
