C6748 Pin multiplexing (and "signal multiplexing")

Hi,

I have a basic question regarding USB1 on the C6748. In the user guide for the C6748's OHCI USB 1.1 (sprufm9h) peripheral I've noticed the following paragraph (in Table 20; NDP):

"The USB signal multiplexing mode and top-level pin multiplexing features can place the device in a mode where 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the USB1.1 host controller downstream ports are usable. This register reports three ports, regardless of USB signal multiplexing mode and top-level pin multiplexing mode."

I could not find any reference to what "signal multiplexing mode" may refer to here -- I'd be very grateful if someone could explain what this means.

Secondly, also I was under the impression that pin multiplexing was not relevant for USB1. That is, in the system reference guide it seems no pinmux registers have the facility to select a USB-related pin and hence I was assuming USB1 has dedicated pins (ignoring perhaps USB_REFCLKIN). The paragraph above seems to directly contradict the conclusion I had made and I would appreciate if someone more knowledgable than myself could confirm or refute my findings.

Kind regards,

Mark
