We are working to finalize the requirements for a custom product, same shall be used inside a material cutting machinery(involves human interaction), which requires SIL certification.
The top-level block diagram of the our solution is shown in the image below.
Note that the solution we're working is only part of the product and shall consist of a main board with a SoC chip (TI’s TDA4VM) and off-the shelf camera.
Input voltage : 24V
Operating Temperature : 0 to 50C
As per the requirements, the product should meet IEC61508 SIL-2 for the safety functions.
We would like to know from TI on the below queries with regards to IEC61508 SIL-2. Kindly let us know.
1. What would be the measures to be taken care while developing our software and hardware to meet the IEC61508 SIL-2 standard for the product?
We would need this info to appropriately develop our software or hardware to meet the test requirements.
2. Is it a necessity for all components to satisfy functional-safety (SIL2 or higher) requirement?
Currently, only the SoC(TDA4VM) and few key components satisfy this out of the box in our system.
3. Our solution may be used as a safety device to prevent injuries. However, only certain components of the system would serve the safety purpose and rest may perform other unrelated functions.
Non-safety related components may interact with safety components for non-safety related functions.
Can both types of components co-exist in the same system? Do we need any hardware isolation between non-safety and safety components?
4. Does TI perform IEC61508 SIL-2 verification for the design? Also, what would be the inputs needed from our side for this process?
5. Is there any pin mux document or tool available for TDA4VM processor?
6. Do TI have any SOM which can be used for resale?
