Please help with L138-EVMAM1808 PCB format conversion

Dear OMAP support team,

SpectrumDigital's EVMAM1808 support page contains all necessary resources to design a new customized board, particularly PCB design file in Allegro .brd format which contains DDR2 layout that is crucial to a working board.

However, when trying to import the file into my Altium Designer, I got the following error message:

It basically says that an installation of Allegro is required in order for conversion to work. However, I don't have Allegro installed and it requires a significant cost to add another EDA software in addition to my Altium Designer.

Could TI help with this by providing a converted file in Altium Designer format? Or could TI contact SpectrumDigital to see if they could offer the help?

Thanks,

Zheng

  • My recommendation is to contact SDI directly.  They may be able to help, but they also may not.  Conversion of PCB file formats can be troublesome and it is difficult enough to do that there are vendors that charge for and specialize in that service.

I would inquire if you could get the file in ASCII format as your error message indicates that this is something Altium can deal with without an Allegro installation.

Even if you get this into Altium, I would be cautious that it imported correctly.

Also, you do not need to copy the EVM layout to ensure a working DDR2 layout.  For that you need to follow the DDR2 layout specification in the data sheet.

    Michael,

Thanks for the information. I did that with manual conversion.
