Booting OMAP-L138 device from an SD card

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138

Do we have somewhere a document or tech.manual with all hardware relevant requirements to boot OMAP-L138 device from an SD card?

The customer is worried that the OMAP cannot cold boot from an SD card since the eval board they have uses the SD card interface to load a U-Boot image and SPI flash to load boot code…

Thank you.

  • PG2.1 introduced SD/MMC boot. Prior to that revision, a SPI flash (or other medium) had to be used for booting, which is why the EVMs boot that way.

For SD boot, 4 bit data mode is used, so connecting the clock control and data pins to the SD/MMC0 interface is all that is required.

We plan to update the application note to be more specific. In the meantime if you have more questions please post here. Thanks
