    Connected either of these devices directly to a SATA hard drive would require an internal SATA capableSERDES interface.  Neither of these two components has that interface.  You could use a different component with a SATA interface and connect to the C6457 or the C6678 using serial RapidIO but I haven't seen and example designs of that type.
