Can't get the AM3505 ASIC ID using FlashTool V1.6 through UART3

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FLASHTOOL, AM3505

I'm trying to use UART3 with FlashTool V1.6 on my custom AM35XX hardware.  Since I am using Micron NAND Flash and DDR2 SDRAM I am using the default  config file.

When I turn on my custom hardware FlashTool gets to :

Please turn off device, then turn it on again

¯ Awaiting ASIC id

After re-cycling power or pressing reset the session times out.

When I however use to OTG device port with the USB FlashTool setting  I get the ASIC ID and other information and the *.bin file is downloaded.

It would appear that I am having issues with UART3 and the 232 transceiver but after reviewing the schematic everything looks OK. Are there any suggestions as to what I can check to get UART3 working?

Also, I cannot boot from an SD Card using MMC2 I am using the SNAVCA406E Transceiver.  I am setting the Boot Parms. for MMC2.  Do the direction control signals for the transceiver require pull-ups or does the processor takes care of direction control on power up so it can read the SD Card?

  • I've double checked the Boot UART (UART3) on the AM3505/17 eXperimentor Board and it uses RTS3 and CTS3 (flow control).  I only used RxD3 and TxD3 please confirm that RTS3 and CTS3 are required for use with the BOOT ROM code?  Also, I did bring these signals out (RTS3, CTS3) as GPIO is there a workaround such as tying them together?

  • OK, I've figured out that the RS232 transceiver is the issue with booting from UART3 not the lack of having flow control.  I can now boot from UART3.  Also, when using the SN74AVCA406E you can boot from MMC2 with the proper boot parms.  I have verified this no pullups are required.
