Serial boot mode - How to verify ?

Hello,

I want to know how can I verify that my board is properly configured for serial boot mode ?

Basically, if I have a bare board and want to confirm that processor is up and running along with UART, can I get any indication on console like "BOOTME" or "CC" ?

How can we be sure that UART boot mode is configured properly ?

I tried following switch setting on DM8168 EVM board but I don't see any message on console.

Please advice.

Hello,

Make sure to configure the serial terminal software with the following settings:
* Bits per second: 115,200
* Data bits: 8
* Parity: None
* Stop bits: 1
* Flow control: None
* Transmit delay: 0 msec/char, 100 msec/line

Hi Marc,

We have done the same configurations which you have mentioned.

We can even see UBoot log messages of NAND boot mode.

The question is, does RBL give BOOTME/CC/any other console message on prompt, while booted in UART boot mode or it will be silent without any message on console ?

We need to know this just to ensure that boot mode is properly configured, processor is properly mounted and it is up and running for a new hardware design.

Sweta,

Sorry, I missed the obvious. On Netra 1.x devices the serial UART boot is broken and is mentioned in the device errata. One more point to note is that serial boot requires UART0.

Hello Marc,

When are the PG 2.0 smaples available? And on Netra 1.x EVM on UART0 is not a serial boot possible? Please clarify.

Feroz,

PG2.0 samples can be ordered now on the product folders. On the Netra EVM UART0 serial boot is not possible.
