Hello,

My system will have 4 externally connected speakers. Each speaker expects to get an input from an I2S bus. Is it a valid configuration to split the same MCASP clock and Frame sync to each speaker and then route a dedicated AXRx pin to each speaker? The other MCASP's on my device are used as audio inputs so I cannot dedicate an MCASP to each speaker.

I would intend to then configure ALSA to take the multichannel MCASP and "split" it into 4 outputs. I'm aware the TDA4VH SDK does not yet support MCASP but I need to work on the hardware design before the SDK is ready. Can I look at the AM62P SDK as a reference for what the TDA4VH SDK will be like?

Hello Jermy,

As you noted, the McASP driver is currently not supported in our TDA4VH SDK, so we cannot comment on whether the driver would support the use case mentioned above.

We suggest reading the Appnote --> https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprack0/sprack0.pdf, which may give you clarity on how to make use of the McASP.

Also, you can look at the TDA4VH TRM Chapter 12.5.2 Multichannel Audio Serial Port (MCASP) for more details.

Thanks for the references. I had actually read those before posting the initial question which is what gave me this idea. I understand you can't comment directly on the TDA4VH SDK, but in generally is this a supported / common use case when using the MCASP on linux?

As a follow up to this, if I have an SK-AM62P-LP, which has functional McASP support in the ti-linux-kernel (commit 09fc962925bbb67a7cb2269daecf76e443ddae95 mentions it), would performing some tests with this kit be a good stand-in until the J784s4 McASP support is functional?

In the end, I guess my question is: are the McASP controllers on the AM62 family the same blocks as those in the J784s4?

Based on your audio routing schematics, we may need some driver or audio configuration changes required to be done, but we cannot confirm at the moment.

As you suggested, you can have a look at the AM62P SDK documentation if it answers.

Yes, the McASP controller is the same., but there could be differences in how it is integrated into the SOC like interrupt no, pin-mux, clock-id, power-id etc.
