PROCESSOR-SDK-AM62X: EMMC Alternate BOOT

Hi Team,

I have a query on what an emmc boot particularly do and also it is stated that "A special alternate boot mode is available with eMMC devices which allows the ROM to boot from an image that
is in a separate boot partition in the eMMC." What does it mean, as per our understanding by default it will boot from boot 0 . Kindly Confirm. Please try to explain regarding this EMMC BOOT in detail.

Hi Ashutosh,

The eMMC alternate boot refers to the ROM booting tiboot3.bin either from Boot0 or Boot1 partition. The partition to boot from is decided from the active boot partition in the EXCSD register of the eMMC.

If you have used

=> mmc partconf 0 1 1 1
=> mmc bootbus 0 2 0 0

then ROM boots tiboot3.bin from Boot0 partition.

If you have used

=> mmc partconf 0 1 2 1
=> mmc bootbus 0 2 0 0

then ROM boots tiboot3.bin from Boot1 partition.

Could you please confirm whether image will be in RAW mode or Filesystem mode when using eMMC alternate boot?

Hi Ashutosh,

The eMMC alternate boot only support RAW mode for both Boot0 and Boot1 partitions.
