TMS320C5535 eZdsp USB Kit fails to enter debuging mode.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5535, LM3S3748

Hello, I got two kits here just arrived from Fedex this afternoon. CCS4 was installed and running with a non expiring license (for MSP430 in one computer, and Stellaris EKI-LM3S3748 in another). I fully uninstall CCS and reinstall from the CD out of the box. Got a new license file and use it in the license manager. After creating a new Target Configuration, we get:

Error connecting to the target:
(Error -151 @ 0x0)
This utility failed to open the adapter for a custom emulator.
The adapter returned an error.
(Release 5.0.429.0)

in both computers. Why TI can not make a decent installation program that allow us to work with MSP430, Stellaris and TMS320C5535 in the same computer?

We have spent about €130 in two eval kits unable to work as the quick user manual states.

Please, any help is wellcomed.

  • Hi Maximiliano,

I am sorry for the trouble.

I have had luck installing the different versions of CCS in different directories.

Just for sanity check, can you tell me the CCS version that you are using to connect to the board?

Are you able to see the "EZDSP5535" board when creating the target configuration?

Have you selected the Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Emulator under Connection?

Are you connecting to the larger of the 2 USB ports (J2) when trying to connect to the target?

If we cant get you up and running, I will involve the CCS/ Emulation group in this conversation.

A quick search on the error returns some forum posts like this one: http://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/code_composer_studio/f/81/t/108925.aspx

    Hope this helps,
    Mark

  • Hi, thanks for your response.

    It is CCS Version: 4.2.4.00033

Yes, I see and check EZDSP5535 under the general setup tab

Yes, the XDS100v2 has been selected

    Yes, we use J2

    help, please.

Same configuration and setup made both evaluation boards to work in a portable computer besides here, after install the included CD directly on a resident CCS V4 licensed for MSP430. When we tried to work back with MSP430, it was impossible, then we get another lic file and since then nor MSP neither DSP worked. Now it is happening the same in my desk computer !

  • Hi, it seems to be cured after manually search and reinstall the driver for XDS100v2 USB emulator (searching in the whole C:)

  • Maximiliano,

Great news. Thanks for sharing your solution.

How do you plan to use the C5535 eZdsp?

    Best Regards,
    Mark

  • Hi Mark,

first we need to feel ourselves confortable with CCS on MSP430, Stellaris LM3S3748 and C5535 eZdsp inside the same computer (if I can not controll totally the enviroment, I can not pass to the next stage in learning). I used to programme µChip PIC, now we are giving a chance to TI MCUs...

The small members of the MSP430 family are begining to be understand almost well, Stellaris is giving me problems because I do not understand well the way for telling the IDE where .c, .h. source files, libraries files, files to be linked after compilation, etc have to be found (help on this will be great). I can modify one of the examples and  manage  UARTs, SPI, Interrupts, api calls in PROM, etc , but I am not able to start a project totally from scratch, because it seems that always something is missed (a path, a file, an include...) and always got some errors that stop the compilation or linking. We design and mount Electroencephalographs. By now almost all the filtering and signal proccessing is made in the host computer. Some data handling at the hardware part would be interesting in an EP/EMG machine that is rounding hereby, and because that (helped by the low cost of the your new TMS320) we are starting to play with them. By now we find more difficult to catch the work of the IDE that the programming matter itself.

    Regards,

    Maximiliano

  • Maximiliano,

I encourage you to visit the CCS wiki, where you can find comprehensive guides to using the tools:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:Code_Composer_Studio_v4#Getting_Started

I rarely start a project from scratch. I would find the closest example software and start my project with that.

For the C5000, we have the Chip Support Library and DSP Library that you may find useful to your project.

For some more basic examples, check otu the C5000 Teaching ROM - this software runs on the C5515/C5505 eZdsps, but with modification can also run on the C5535 eZdsp.

I plan to release such on the C5000 Wiki in the near future.

Feel free to search for and ask your CCS questions on the CCS E2E Forum as well.

Let us know how the development goes.

    Best Regards,
    Mark

  • Hi,

I am having this same issue and I believe that "manually searching and reinstalling the driver for XDS100v2 USB emulator" will resolve my problem. Can anyone tell me how to manually search and reinstall the driver for XDS100v2 USB emulator?
Im very new to PC's, and DSP's.

    That would be greatly appreciated,

    Nate
