AM625: Display splash screen image in u-boot of Custom AM625 SOM

1. Is their support of splash screen while kernel booting on RGB display?
2. I've found one psplash-start.service and psplash-systemd.service in folder "/lib/systemd/system/", so can I give custom image in this .service file?
3. Also do you know about emergency mode? because, when I try to boot my custom AM625 SOM with Image built in yocto build, and kept that image in emmc, then while booting from emmc, the OS enters emergency mode.

I've built the psplash using these commands for Custom AM625 SOM, also kept that psplash in path "/usr/bin/" and there's a service already which calls this binary file using sysvinit named as psplash-start.service.

But, now after doing all these changes and giving below commands

systemctl enable psplash-start.service
systemctl daemon-reload
reboot

In booting logs the kernel fails to start the psplash-start.service and after entering "systemctl status psplash-start.service", the output says,

failed to start psplash-start.service
exited with error code 255/exitCode
Error in opening device /dev/fb0

So what should I do next to run psplash screen successfully? 

Also, is there any way to display any image or logo just after powering on the device I.e. in the u-boot itself?

Hi,

I would recommend you to check with the community on the psplash aspect because we did not design it. With regards to Uboot, we only have support for LVDS and not DPI.

1. It means, I cannot display anything on my RGB display in the u-boot itself. Am I right?

2. Also, I still cant display anything on display while kernel is loading i.e. the psplash screen on my RGB display.

3. Also I need help with disabling kernel logs on UART, and also guide me with how to re-enable the kernel logs

1. There are no HW limitations and we just have not enabled it in software. 

2. Is this your custom psplash? Are you able to use the loading bar?

3. Please file another ticket for UART.

Yes, I downloaded and built it from  github.com/.../master , but no progress bar is displayed as while booting the psplash-start.service which has custom psplash screen path isn't loading. I'm getting error in starting that service.

As I mentioned previously, we do not have any references for Uboot splash using DPI.

Hi,

Splash is already enabled by default. I would recommend to review the splash setup we have running on our EVM with default SDK.

Hi,

In your Kernel config, do you have fbdev enabled? Please compare with our default defconfig and enable all the necessary configs related to fbdev.
