I am also attaching our "linker.cmd" file for your reference.

1526.linker.zip

Please check above details and let us know if missed any steps or data in above details. Also, kindly provide appropriate RAT details for our EVK: SK-AM62A-LP to run this "EPWM Duty Cycle" example along with Linux.

We need to run/test an ePWM sample example from MCU-R5-Core along with Linux running A-53-Core (SK-AM62A-LP EVK). Please help on it.

Thanks,

Nisarg

  • Hello Nisarg,

    Did you add the resource table to your linker.cmd file, as documented on that page you linked to? I do not see a resource table section in your linker.cmd file.

    Refer to section "Update the linker.cmd file"
    https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=A__AeO-0ljXOpe7uiPS6ozGxg__AM62A-ACADEMY__WeZ9SsL__LATEST

    FYI, I am currently working on restructuring that page so that it is a bit easier to follow (based on feedback like your thread here). One of the changes I'm making is to move section "Option 2: Manually add an empty resource table to the MCU+ Project" to another page, so that the linker.cmd file updates show up right below section "Option 1: Add Linux IPC to an MCU+ Project".

    Regards,

    Nick

    Hello Nick,

    As per your suggestions, I have updated the "linker.cmd" file in  "EPWM Duty Cycle" example and rebuild the firmware. I tried to run the "EPWM Duty Cycle" example on our EVK (SK-AM62A-LP), but we are facing the same error in R5 firmware loading with Linux during boot-up time. (Failed to load program segments: -22)

    Please check the below attachment (the updated "linker.cmd" file) and let us know if any other changes are required apart from this for our EVK (SK-AM62A-LP). Please check and provide your input on it.

  • Hello Nisarg,

    I am taking a closer look at bad phdr da 0x9ca08000 mem 0x264e0 now. In your linker.cmd file, it looks like you are defining DDR_FS_STUB and DDR at offset 0x9ca0_8000?

    First off, you should not have a DDR_FS_STUB in your MCU R5F if I understand the MCU+ projects properly - that is specifically for the DM R5F core.

    Second, that overlaps with the region of memory that is allocated for the DM R5F core by default. Please double check your memory allocations to make sure that the MCU R5F memory region is NOT and the DM R5F memory region do not overlap (or wkup_r5fss0 in the Linux devicetree). You should also make sure that the memory allocations in your linker.cmd file match up with your memory allocations in Linux.

    Default allocations from the Linux side:
    k3-am62a7-sk.dts

                    wkup_r5fss0_core0_dma_memory_region: r5f-dma-memory@9c800000 {

                            reg = <0x00 0x9c800000 0x00 0x100000>;
                            no-map;
                    };

                    wkup_r5fss0_core0_memory_region: r5f-dma-memory@9c900000 {
                            compatible = "shared-dma-pool";

    Regards,

    Nick

  • I am taking a closer look at bad phdr da 0x9ca08000 mem 0x264e0 now.

    Hello Nick,

    We are using "epwm_duty_cycle" sample example available in TI MCU+SDK for EVK (SK-AM62A-LP)

    Example Path: "mcu_plus_sdk_am62ax_09_01_00_39\examples\drivers\epwm\epwm_duty_cycle\am62ax-sk\r5fss0-0_freertos\ti-arm-clang"

    Note: "linker.cmd" is already available in the imported project file. ("epwm_duty_cycle" TI sample example project)

    We have tried your suggested changes

    1) Remove "DDR_FS_STUB" entries from existing "linker.cmd" file

    2) Added "DDR_0" entry as per your suggested link

    Also enable "IPC" for the remote core Linux  (We need to run/test an ePWM sample example from MCU-R5-Core along with Linux running A-53-Core (SK-AM62A-LP EVK))

    With the above changes, we built the code and checked the MCU-R5 firmware on boot-up, and we got an error on board boot-up time. ( Failed to load program segments: -22)

  • Hello Nisarg,

    What is going on?

    You are trying to ask Linux to load a project that was created for the DM R5F, not the MCU R5F. That is why Linux is throwing an error around
    HSM_RAM : ORIGIN = 0x43C00000 LENGTH = 0x3FF00

    You need to load an MCU R5F project into the MCU R5F, not a DM R5F project.

    More details

    The documentation around that examples/drivers/epwm/epwm_duty_cycle/am62ax-sk/r5fss0-0_freertos project is not very clear, but that project was created for the DM R5F, not the MCU R5F.

    If we take a look at the Linux IPC example, you'll see that folder r5fss0-0_freertos is for the DM R5F, while folder mcu-r5fss0-0_freertos is for the MCU R5F:

    mcu_plus_sdk_am62ax_09_01_00_39/examples/drivers/ipc/ipc_rpmsg_echo_linux/am62ax-sk$ ls
    c75ss0-0_freertos  mcu-r5fss0-0_freertos  r5fss0-0_freertos

    It might be easier for you to start with a different project that was built for the MCU R5F.

    The AM62Ax academy's MCU module has some helpful getting started information if you need some guidance:

  • Hello Nick,

    If possible, kindly provide the "EPWM Duty Cycle" TI example for the MCU-R5. We need a TI-Sample example for "EPWM Duty Cycle" on MCU-R5.(EVK (SK-AM62A-LP) along with Linux running A-53-Core.)

    Thanks,

    Nisarg

  • Hello Nisarg,

    I am reassigning your thread to one of my MCU+ focused team members to provide additional guidance.

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Nisarg, I will check with my colleagues internally to explore potential solutions.

    One option, I see, is to leverage the existing project “hello_world\am62ax-sk\mcu-r5fss0-0_freertos” as a baseline. From there, you can add/port “epwm_duty_cycle\am62ax-sk\r5fss0-0_freertos” project.

    Thank you,

    Paula

  • Nisarg, also a question, could you explain us or give us more information why do you need to use MCU-R5F for EPWM?

    thank you,

    Paula

  • Nisarg, also a question, could you explain us or give us more information why do you need to use MCU-R5F for EPWM?

    Hello Paula,
    We need to generate the PWM for a particular operation, and that PWM signal should be generated for a defined time in microsecond accuracy. Lets say if 100us is configured, then on some event we want to drive PWM for only 100us and not for more time. So we are considering this handling at the MCU-R5 core as it can provide accuracy in microseconds.
    If there are any registers available in PWM and if we can achieve the same functionality from the A53 core, then it will work for us. Please suggest if the same thing is available.
    Thanks,
    Nisarg
  • Hi Nisarg, thanks a lot for your reply. I wonder if you see any issues/limitations for your use case if you use DM R5F to drive EPWM.

    Paula

  • Hello Paula,

    Currently, we are using MCU-R5 for our firmware and other interface drivers, so for that reason, we need to use EPWM in the MCU-R5 core.  We want to drive ePWM based on some MCU-GPIO events on MCU-R5 so that we do not prefer to use DM-R5. Additionally, the TRM document also mentioned that ePWM can be access on MCU-R5 via RAT. So we are looking for PWM access sample code on the MCU-R5 core.

    Another option for us is to just enable/disable ePWM through MCU-R5, which is already preconfigured through the A53 core via the Linux driver. Is this case possible?

    Thanks,

    Nisarg

  • Hi Nisarg,

    The second option is not supported by TI. We only support a peripheral being controlled by a single software instance. More info in the multicore academy module here: https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=A__ASuOzonPJpyBzKFrqEN1fg__AM62A-ACADEMY__WeZ9SsL__LATEST

    For the first option, as you know, we currently don't have a demo supported and tested inside our MCU-SDK. However, I did a quick porting exercise. Please take below just as a guidance to help you continue. In parallel, I am internally checking if there is any HW limitation for supporting EPWM on MCU-RF5, and, if not, if this demo could be added in a future MCU-SDK.

    Porting Exercise:

    1) Used MCU-RF5 as a baseline.

    • I was able to add EPWM to MCU-RF5 Hello World sysconfig file.
    • I also added "epwm_duty_cycle.c" and "main.c" from DM-RF5 EPWM example.
    • I removed Hello_world files from being built.
    • In new added main.c I commented sciServer_init() inside main_thread().
    • some snapshots below

    2) Add "epwm" to MCU-RF5 driver library

    • In order to add "epwm" to driver "libs". I added below to source\drivers\makefile.am62ax.r5f.ti-arm-clang (similar to what I saw in source\drivers\makefile.am62ax.dm-r5f.ti-arm-clang)

    • Then, I rebuilt all the libs, but, if you prefer, you can check in makefile.am62ax how to only build R5F's drivers lib.
    • For rebuilding libs I did:

    cd C:\ti\mcu_plus_sdk_am62ax_09_02_00_38

    gmake libs PROFILE=debug

    • After above changes I am able to rebuild modified HelloWorld.
    • I tested using a scope, and I see output 1KHz signal in J3's pin 24 (expansion header)

    As mentioned above, I am currently checking internally to confirm, but in the meantime, if you want, you can give a try to above and see if this works for you.

    thank you,

    Paula
