Hi,

We don’t need the Media controller /HDVPSS/ISS in AM3872, however we want those pins to be usable as GPIO.

Is AM3871 a better alternate for us?

Abhishek,

The diff between the 2 is the AM3871 does not have the HDVPSS display subsystem where as the AM3872 has. So, if you don't need HDVPSS, the AM3871 is closest to AM3872 you can get.

Does the AM3871 include the Media Controller?

Can I use the Media Controller dual Cortex M3 as the AM1x Programmable Real-Time Unit Subsystem (PRUSS)? For real time coprocessing?

Yes, the AM3871 does has Media Controller but there is no support on it yet for broad market.

What do you mean "no support"?

If I can program the AM3874 Media Controller, why can't I program the AM3871 one?

Sorry for confusion. What I mean "no support" is we don't have anyone doing technical support for this module. Customer has to depend on doc and psp for now.
