In the new EVM board i can see that the VBACKUP pin is connected to VBACKUP power in parallel with R602 2Kohm resistor. Why this resistor is needed?

The initial EVM was designed with incomplete documentation for the PMIC. We added this pull-down based on recommendations from the PMIC group "If VBACKUP is not used it should be grounded. Leaving it unconnected will probably be o.k. as I don’t expect that any coupling will cause it to be higher than the VCC7 node at any stage." The resistor however, is not needed. It can be connected directly to gnd.

P.S. As always, if at anytime there is a discrepancy between the EVM and the data sheet, the data sheet should always supersede.
