AM6442: Errata i2326 is applied in the use case of Separate Clock Architecture also ?

Part Number: AM6442

Hi,

My customer wants to confirm about the errata i2326.

In their system, Separate Clock Architecture may be used in the future model. Own PCIe refclk on each device is used, AM64x as Root-complex and FPGA as End-point.

Is the errata i2326 applied to this use case of Separate Clock Architecture as well ?

Regards,

Hideaki

  • Yes, anytime the internal refclk is used, the errata applies.  The PCIe refclk should be supplied externally with a clock generator with SSC.

    James

  • I would like to add some clarity to the reply from James.

The advisory only restricts you from configuring the AM64x internal PCIe clock from operating in Spread Spectrum mode.

The reason James said you must use an external clock source for the PCIe reference clock is because AM64x does not support the independent clocking topology, where you operate the Root-complex and End-point with independent clock sources. AM64x has only been validated to operate with the common clocking topology.
