TMDS64EVM: Accessing gpio ports via codesys

Hi. I have tmds64evm board. I want to access gpio ports via codesys. How i can do that. I saw on some video on youtube with leds access via industrial communication protocls. But i dont want to use protocols. Just access gpio ports. Also seems in schematic, led16,17,18,19 are connected to processor via i2c. That seems confusing. How codesys can use direct gpio access instead of using i2c.

Hi Mehmet,

Some questions before we proceed:

Which SDK are you using, Linux or MCU+? What version?
Can you share a link to the youtube video that you mentioned?
If you don't want to use the industrial protocols, what is the use-case for Codesys?
What is the end goal of this? Is it just to access GPIOs or are you using Codesys for industrial communication?

Hi Anshu,

Using Linux 09.02.01.09 out of box sd card image.

I will use industrial protocols in future but for now I just wanna read and write gpios via codesys.

End goal is make a plc with codesys maybe connect otherdevices with industrial protcols.

But first of all, I wanna read/write gpios via codesys.

Hi Mehmet,

Are you wanting to use Codesys to control the GPIOs on the main/controller device or the sub device?

Codesys is a stack used on just the Master/Controller device. The Master/controller device doesn't usually control it's own I/O just sends ethernet frames to other devices.

Hi Anshu,

Main/Master Device with codesys, communicate with slaves with industrial protocol. and also have some gpio access with main device. Is that possible ?

It might be possible, but it is not within the scope of TI support. Please ask Codesys directly for this use-case.

Hi Anshu,

With beaglebone i had no problem controlling gpios via codesys. Codesys using sysfs to control gpios. Since leds are connected via i2c, that could be the problem? Also another question in my mind is, how to find gpio number?. with chardev i was able to control some gpios connected to testpoint. But with sysfs, i needed to find gpio number. How i can calculate gpio number lets say, gpiochip0 pin19.
