PROCESSOR-SDK-AM62X: Rogue GPU software support plan

Genius 3186 points

Part Number: PROCESSOR-SDK-AM62X

Hi

I think Rogue GPU driver (ti-img-rogue-driver-am62-dkms) is supporting only Wayland not support X11 and Xwayland now.

But many of my customer's software and Open source software need to use X11 (conpatible) still.

Is there any plan for TI's GPU kernel driver support X11 or Xwayland?

my customer yearn for supporting Xwayland.

Or the Rogue GPU cannot support X11/Xwayland by hardware?

Thanks,

GR

  • Hi,

At the moment, we do not support X11 with the proprieratry drivers in SDK. Eventually, we will migrate to the open source driver for AM62x and X11 should be supported by default. With regards to timelines, IMG is still working on the open source drivers but we expect to see something meaningful by early next year.

  • Hi Krunal,

    Thanks for your supporting.

New GPU driver will should be supporting X11 enviroment is good news for us and my customer.

X11 should be supported by default.

If there is information, I am happy if you let me know,

New GPU driver is use X11 as default?

Or officially support X11 enviorment (e.g. support Wayland + Xwayland)?

    Best regards,

    GR

  • Hi,

The open source driver is Vulkan based and there will be a Zink layer that will help accelerate X11. As of now, it's too early to predict what X11 environments will work out of the demo. We are just waiting for IMG (our GPU vendor) to finish their development work.

  • Hi Krunal,

    Thanks for your information.

    I understand.

I will wait for imagination's developing, too.

    Best regards,
