XDS510 USB Emulator & C6678 EVM

Dear All ,

I am trying to conenct XDS510USB emulator to 6678EVM. For this i am using a 60 pin to 20 pin passive convertor (BH-ADP-20e_cTI-60t_TI : http://blackhawk-dsp.com/products/PinConverters.aspx#14e_TI-60t_TI) and a 20 pin to 14 pin low voltage adaptor (http://www.spectrumdigital.com/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=173&osCsid=785a2d65de4a85e30850ff585a3291a4) . To give more details of teh setup , the 60 pin to 20 pin convertor is connected to the 60 pin header of the EVM on one side and to the 20 pin to 14 pin low voltage adaptor on teh other side. XDS510 is connected to the 14 pin header of the low voltage adapter.

I am using CCSV5.0.3 to connect to the target. When i create a new target configuration for XDS510USB and try to connect to target i get the followng error :

Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80000240/-2082
Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS,
Device driver: Emulation Connection Loss Detected on Target CPU.
It is recommended to RESET EMULATOR.  This will disconnect each
target from the emulator.  The targets should then be power cycled
or hard reset followed by an emureset and reconnect to each target.

Can anyone guide me in resolving this issue?

  • Anil,

We've not had good luck with the SD XDS510USB and the 6678 EVM.  With multiple adapters being necessary and the need for the voltage translation, some customers have had success, while some haven't.  The XDS510 works at a fixed frequency, so there is no way to lower TCK in these situations to get better communication.  You might contact SD, and see if they have any suggestions.  There may be a resistor on your board that you can modify that will alleviate this.  Alternatively, the XDS100v2 gives a similar performance as the XDS510 but is only $89 from Spectrum Digital.  The other option might be to exchange your 6678EVML and upgrade to a EVM6678LE, which comes with a built in XDS560v2 class emulator.

  • Dan  ,

Thanks for the info. Do u suggest any other approach to interface XDS510 USB emulator to Shannon EVM. We are exploring options to use the XSD510 emulator as we have procured these emulators in house.

We have tried the XSD560V2STM emulator from SD and it works fine.

  • Anil,

No, I don't have any other suggestion for the XDS510.  That's a pretty old SD part.  They have many newer emulators, like the one that you mention that have better support for newer devices.
