AM3352: Connecting AM3352 and Ethernet Switch IC

Genius 3215 points

Part Number: AM3352

Hi All

My customer considering using the AM3352BZCE60's Ethernet "1" port RGMII for LAN communication.

Connect one EthernetSwitch IC to the RGMII and one SPI or I2C pin.
We are considering a 2-port configuration and connecting it to an RJ45 connector.
The EthernetSwitch IC is Microchip's KSZ9893RNX.

According to E2E, this specification is not supported, but is it still not supported?

Please let me know if there are any successful examples of this specification or SwitchICs that can be used.

Best Regards,

Ito

  • Hi Saulnier,

Please let me know current progress.

Is there any other data you want?

  • Hi,

As the post mentions direct support for external switches is not possible, and there have been several people who have been successful integrating the external switch to the CPSW.

I will not be able to provide exact steps as there are not any TI EVMs that implement an external switch. I can provide some general notes to be aware of:

    • You will need interface in fixed link mode. This DTS bindings doc provides information concerning fixed link.
    • You will need information from the vendor on any Linux driver support, perhaps they have an example.
    • The MDIO interface and driver will not be useable since this is designed to work with a PHY and not a external switch.

As mentioned there have been several implementations and forum members commenting on external Ethernet switch. We do not catalog posts on this topic. You can search the TI forums with this command that might help answer additional questions you have.
