814x chip, EZSDK and EVM

HI, everybody. This is the first time that I post message here. Thanks any help in advance.

We are plan to use DM8148 as the MPU for a production which process video, display GUI and comunicate with others.

my question is:

1、what is the stage of the DM8148 chip.

Does it is in final stage, or in beta release? is there any hardware bug fix in progress? when will the final version be released?

2、regrad the EZSDK, what is the plan?

Does the PSP/kernel stable?

3、we need CAN bus in our production. so we need CAN linux driver, test code and Hardware.

Does the EVM contains CAN Transmiter hardware and EZSDK/PSP contains CAN linux driver and test codes?

what is the plan.

4、regard the EVM. I know the 816x has three kind of daughter board? Does 814x has the same?

The TI official price of EVM is $2200, what is the detail? What is the function of EVM and what daughter board does it have?

5、81xx vs 64xx. Does C67x+ faster than C64x+ except float operation?

if 8168 the DM6467 has DSP of the same frequency, Does they have the same performance except float operation?

Hi Ethan,

The DM8148 PG2.x is consider final stage. It has all the critical bugs in PG1.x fixed.

The EZSDK is in stable condition and it is continue to support and improve.

Other experts will response to your other questions.

Additional response:

The full EVM comes with a general-purpose daughter card (named Expansion I/O Board with LCD Adaptor). There are other special application daughterboards also available, but these are made selectively available directly from the application teams.

Additional comment:

The C674x core has the same performance as C64x+. The only difference that C674x has over C64x+ is the support for additional floating point instructions

#5. The C674x CPU combines the performance of the C64x+ core with the floating-point capabilities of the C67x+ core. The C674x is a fixed/floating-point VLIW DSP core. The C674x is a superset of the C67x+ and C64x+ ISAs, making it fully software compatbile.

Thanks very much for your reply.

We prefer to use DM814x instead of 816x, so that we do not need heat sink and fans. but we worried that the 814x DSP performance is not enough.

I heard that C6A814x is in schedule, Does it's DSP frequency reach 1GMHz?

One more thing:

We are trying to order the 814x EVM through distributor. but it seems that it takes long time.

I visit the TI eStore and it seems that the custom will get EVM within 10 days.

We are in China. what is the fast the convenient way to buy 8148 EVM.

Is the EVM has enough Inventory? any contact informaion about EVM?

Thanks for posting your questions to our external forums. Unfortunately, the C6A814x device will not be made generally available. Please contact your TI sales rep if you need support on finding another suitable TI solution for your design. The C6A814x has pin and software compatible derivatives in the DM814x and AM387x devices. More information on these two options can be found at www.ti.com/dm8148 and www.ti.com/am3874.

We are currently looking to support up to 750MHz on the device for the DSP on DM814x. The device is currently under testing and validation for higher speed grade options. Please contact your sales rep for more up-to-date information on DSP performance for this device.
