AM62A7-Q1: MEMTESTER ERROR

Part Number: AM62A7-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Tool/software:

We are working on a memtester on a custom board with 4GB DDR.

When running memtester, an error and kernel panic occur as shown below.

Is there any point for debugging?

  • Hi,
Can you please share the modification to the DDR configuration that you have done in uboot before running memtester.

Kindly, also share your modified uboot configuration so we can get the DDR experts to comment on the modifications.

    Regards,
    Aparna

  • Hi

The DDR of the board is the same as the one attached to the SK board, and we are using 9.1 SDK (tiny).

Unfortunately we haven't modified the ddr settings yet.

Likewise, I did not modify the u-boot settings.

Sorry for the lack of information.

    Regards,

    Kim

  • Thanks Kim, I will get someone else to comment on the issue.

    Regards,
    Aparna

  • Hi Kim, although you used the same LPDDR4 device as the SK, there still may need to be some changes to the configuration if the board layout is different.  Did you perform any board signal integrity simulations?  Did you follow the board layout guidelines from this app note https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sprad66 , especially the trace impedance requirements.  Are there any differences in the routing or stackup between your board and the SK?

    Regards,

    James

  • The pcb design is different from the evk board. It is designed as a 14 layer build-up B. Attached is the PCB stack data. If you need any additional information, please reply.

    IMPEDANCE(14층_1.6T_36_50_76_90_100)-빌드업B.pdf

  • Was any board signal integrity simulations performed?  What was the result of the simulations?  What are the trace impedances of the DDR signals?

    Regards,

    James

  • We did not proceed with the signal integrity simulations.

    Single Impedance ( 36Ω ± 10% )

    Differential Impedance ( 76Ω  ± 10% )

  • Can you also try with the following changes to the DDR Configuration tool: https://dev.ti.com/sysconfig/?product=Processor_DDR_Config&device=AM62Ax

    Termination: CA ODT(FSP1) = RZQ/4 (60ohm)

    Termination: CA ODT(FSP2) = RZQ/4 (60ohm)

and then rebuild u-boot with this new configuration and retest.

    Regards,

    James

  • I modified CA_ODT using the sysconfig tool, but the result was the same.

The log does not go beyond the last line or a kernel panic occurs.

  • OK, that seems to be worse since you can't get to the kernel prompt.  The original memtester failures you posted show that the failures are always on bit14.  Have you tried multiple boards? And is the behavior the same?

    Regards,

    James

  • Currently, there are only two boards, so I'm testing with both, and the symptoms are the same.

There are a few things I found out.

If you disable r5 and c7x (dts), it will boot 10 times out of 10.

Another thing is that if you lower the ddr frequency to 600mhz, it will boot about 5 times out of 10.

    Regards

    Kim

  • So if you disable r5 and c7x, does memtester run without error?  Can you run memtester at 600MHz?  Can you send the memtester log for both boards?

    Regards,

    James

  • Hi

    I'm sorry for late reply.
This time, we designed DDR using the same pattern as the Devkit and it is currently working well without disabling r5x and c7x.
So the team concluded that it was a DDR problem.
    Regards,
    Kim
