AM6442: Linux HSR, PRP & PTP support on PRU-ICSSG & CPSW3G

Dear team,

We require switch functionality on AM64x on LInux supporting HSR/PRP/PTP protocols. For this which ethernet peripheral we should utilize CPSW or PRU-ICSSG?? How we should decide on this?

Currently i am trying to evaluate this on RF core but later on will be using on A53 core with Linux. So ethernet drivers used will same for both core?

For this evaluation I am using examples from MCU_plus_SDK but there is one more SDK "ind_comms_sdk". So whats the difference between the 2 SDKs & which one we should look into?

while we have different options to cover HSR/PRP as you know it is my understanding that ICSS_G based options for RTOS are covered here:

Keep in mind that Ind comms SDK requires the MCU SDK as a base. Installing Ind Comms SDK results in a full MCU SDK installation in folder "mcu_plus_sdk".

As of now, to start evaluating Ethernet switch functionality & HSR/PRP i will start looking into Ind comms SDK & will try the demo examples as you mentioned in above link.

But when we should use CPSW peripheral, & when to use ICSS_G peripheral any specific cases??

Hi Shraddha,

sounds good. On CPSW vs ICSS_G I would defer to a dedicated call with our experts. It also depends on your requirements. If you need something easy then Linux+CPSW would work. If you have real time performance requirements then ICSS_G can help with offload of many HSR/PRP functions at the low level (e.g. duplicate packets insertion/removal).
