Dear TI,

we are facing some trouble configuring the common platform switch via systemd-networkd (see: DRA829J: Configuring CPSW9G with systemd-networkd/ debug CPSW9G - Processors forum - Processors - TI E2E support forums).

If we configure it manually by using the tools "ip" and "bridge", it works as expected. But using systemd-networkd leads to different error situations.

We would like to understand which switch parameters are configured differently by systemd-networkd and the "manual" script.

Do you have any tools to dump the switch configurations, so that we can compare them?

Hi,

The iproute2 package (which maintains the ip and the bridge utility) and systemd-networkd are developed separately. So there might be some syntactical differences between the two. But almost all the functionalities used are provided by both of them.

Can you chare what you are doing with ip and bridge commands and what are the systemd files you have and let me compare them?

CPSW driver does not have tools which can dump software configurations. But you can probe the br0 interface like other interfaces.

For switch hardware configuration, you can dump the ALE table. See here to do so.

In the e2e thread you referenced, in the last response, I asked for a diff between a working the configuration I had posted and your configuration.

Can you provide that.

Hi Tanmay,

In April I did two different test.

- I updated my configuration with some properties from your example.

- I copied your files to my board and changed the names and identifieres so they fit to my board. I also changed the other systems in my setup to use the settings in your example (IP, VID, etc.)

Both approaches didn't work. We can provide the diff to you, but the only difference will be the names. So I don't see how they would give you any new insight into the problem.

I think we would have a better chance in debugging our issue, if we could read and compare the settings of the switch directly from memory/register. Because the Linux tools don't show any difference between our working and our failing solution (i.e. 'bridge vlan show').

Hi Tanmay,

we also found that our systemd config works properly if the switch is not in "switch" mode but in mac mode. In that case, systemd creates a virtual switch that works as expected. So maybe the problem is in the switch driver?
