Hi team,

A customer wants to have 4GB LPDDR4 (single channel topology). They could not find 4GB 16-bit single-channel LPDDR4, there is only 2GB option. Can they use a 32-bit device and only connect one channel? Please let me know if you have any suggested devices.

Yes, this can be done. They would have to choose an 8GB LPDDR4 when connecting only half the data bus to achieve a total of 4GB. If they want 4GB with AM62x, they could also use DDR4 devices

Thank you for your reply. Customer has some further questions.

Customer is concerned about high cost when using half of 8GB, plus power consumption for DDR4.
1. Do you have a power consumption comparison between DDR4 and LPDDR4 for AM623 MPU?
2. Can they use AM62x power-estimation tool (PET)?
3. Can they refer to AM62x Power Consumption?3264.AM62x Power Consumption.pdf
Another question, for LPDDR4, does AM62x support 2 rank?

Yes, they should refer to the app notes you mention for the latest power consumption numbers on AM62x. AM62x LPDDR4 does support dual rank, but there are no devices on the market that i'm aware of that has the right topology (ie, single package x16 with dual rank). You cannot use 2 separate LPDDR4 devices because we only support point to point connections for the data bus.

I'm not sure which use cases they need low power, but have them consider DDR4 and look at the app note. There are several use cases which have similar numbers to LPDDR4, especially with 0.75V CORE voltage

Some examples are Micron MT40A2G16 or x2 MT40A4G8
