I just managed to boot up the DM816x EVM. Now I need to do some image / video processing test on it. I need to get the video frames first. For example, I need to capture video frames from an analog camera.

I searched this Forum and understand the video drivers for Linux is not available yet. So the only way is to use OpenMax (through OMTB)? I am new to this. Anyone could point me to some examples on how to get the video input? And how to integrate them into my own development (c code)?

Hi,

You can use VFCC open max component to feed in the analog component input to capture. TVP7002 is the decoder connected to HDVPSS VIP capture. Currently TVP7002 is being controlled by Media controller binary. We have plans of providing V4L2 capture driver in Q411 in which TVP7002 will be controlled by Linux A8 V4L2 TVP7002 driver itself.

Thanks for the information provided. I am looking into the OpenMax User's Guide and trying to understand how to use the VFCC component.

Is there any sample code to capture 1 channel of SD video? I haven't figured out how to config the video input ports. Do I need the daughter board for video input?

Currently SD video capture is not supported. It supports on HD video capture.

Thanks for the info! May I know whether the V4L2 capture driver will support SD video input? Do you know the exact release date?

Any workaround for SD video input available? This is urgently needed for our project development.

Hi,

There will be a support for SD capture using V4L2. But we have not planned dates for it as of now. But you can capture HD and scale it to SD using VFCC open max component and do further operations as if SD capture.

Hi,

Unfortunately we still have not come up with a plan to support SD capture. But we have created a app note on how to add new decoders to existing V4L2 drivers. App note can be found at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/DM81xx_AM38xx_Adding_External_Decoders_to_V4L2_Capture_Driver SD capture is supported using TVP5147 on IO expansion card. Fortunately TVP5147 decoder driver is available in Linux Kernel source. So its matter of hooking the TVP5147 with V4L2 capture driver. This is clearly explained in above app note.
