WinCE Bootloader update for AM1808 128MB DRAM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1808

SOMAM1808 10-1602QHIR-B
MPC Data WinCE 6.0 v1.0, v1.3

TI,

I bought a new AM1808 SOM with 128MB of DDR (above).  I installed a correctly built Eboot and it downloads WinCE 6.0 from platform builder.  It launches and then immediately reboots into Eboot, redownloads and relaunches.  It will do this repeatedly.  My 64MB SOM and build works fine (with 64MB patch).  The 128MB SOM’s label is:

1017950
REV A
3211MC2033
SOMAM1808
10-1602QHIR-B

According to “PCN 474: Hardware Changes”, this SOM has had a DDR upgrade.  I am told by LogicPD that the WinCE bootloader needs to have its DDR ID updated.  The Micron DDR part numbers are:

MT46H64M16LFCK-6:A       Old
MT46H64M16LFBF-6 IT:B   New

Has this update already been done?  If not, what is the best way to get this done?  I must get this running.

Regards,
Nelson

  • Hi Nelson,

    A couple of questions:

Which version of WinCE BSP you are using?

What is the part number of your baseboard?

The ubl does the DDR configuration and I am suspecting you might be using an older version of ubl.  If you are not using the latest version (01.10.00) of WinCE BSP, could you try it and see if it helps?  You can download the latest version from here.

Also, it might be worthwhile to compile a debug build of NK.bin to see how far does it go during boot up.

    Regards,

    WM

  • WM,

    BSP Version: 1.3
    Date: 6 July, 2010
    Reference 2902-UD04

I've also added the 64MB DRAM patch.

The reference base board is the TI TMDXEXP1808L Experimenters Kit.

Is 01.10.00 a later build?  If so, does it include the 64MB patch?

    Best,

    Nelson

  • Nelson,

If you need to add the 64MB DRAM patch, then it is an old BSP release.

I would suggest you to try the release 01.10.00 WinCE BSP release, especially the ubl found in the release, with the 128MB SOM.

Release 01.10.00 WinCE BSP also includes the 64MB patch.  But probably you may need to continue to use the ubl from the old BSP release with the 64MB SOM.

You can track the release issues at this link (also mentioned in the release notes).

By the way, in addition to the part # you mentioned, is there a small white label on the baseboard that shows the part # of the base board alone?

    Regards,

    WM

  • WM,

01.10.00 did the trick.  Thank you.
