CCSTUDIO: specify MCU+ SDK version for project wizard examples

Part Number: CCSTUDIO
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Tool/software:

Hi,

I'm running CCS v12.7 and have multiple versions of the AM64x MCU+ SDK installed from 10.00.00.20 to 07.03.00.19 but when I use the project wizard to generate an example project it always seems to use MCU+ SDK version 9.1.0.41 . I assume this is specified somewhere as I'd really like to update it to 10.x but I can't find out where !

Thanks

  • Hi Jon,

    Thanks for your query.

. I assume this is specified somewhere as I'd really like to update it to 10.x but I can't find out where !

    Please follow the below steps.

Import the example project in CCS and right click on it and open properties.

Select the General tab and inside General select Products.

    Please refer below screenshot.

Now add the SDK version you want to use. After adding the appropriate SDK click in Apply and Close to save changes.

    Hope the above information helps.

    Regards,

    Tushar

  • Hi Tushar,

Yes, that changes the SDK version for that project but the project wizard is still creating projects for the 9.1.0.41 SDK even though I have 10.00.00.20 installed. Do you know how I change that ?

    Thanks

  • Hi Jon,

Can you please check the below properties for example project and share the result?

Please check the Environment tab in project property as shown below and check for MCU+SDK path.

Also check the Builder property and ensure Generate makefiles automatically is checked.

    Regards,

    Tushar

  • Hi Tushar,

So when I create the example project using the project wizard

    and Environment variables

and then after updating the project to SysConfig v1.20.0 and MCU+ SDK 10.0.0.20

the environment variables update as you'd expect

but the question remains how do I get the project wizard to generate projects using the 10.0.0.20 SDK in the first place ???

Generate makefiles automatically is ticked by the way

Which version of CCS are you using by the way ? Your properties menu is different to mine CCS General (me) vs General (you) and CCS Build (me) vs Build (you)

    Thanks

  • I may be onto something here ...

If I open the resource explorer view and expand arm based processors > embedded software

MCU+ SDK for AM64x - 09.01.00.41 is listed as the latest version and even though v10 is installed it isn't listed

I would hypothesise that if the v10 SDK was listed here and selected as the latest version then the project wizard would create projects with this version instead of 09.01.00.41

  • Hi Jon,

Can you please check "Summary of flags Set" option used for compiling the project? Check for the Arm Compiler options under properties tab. Make sure MCU+SDK v10.0 is used for compilation.

Please refer below image. (I am using SDK v9.2.1.5)

Can you please also check "Summary of flags Set" option used for linking the project? Check for the Arm Linker options under properties tab. Make sure MCU+SDK v10.0 is used for linking.

Please use the rebuild option while building your project.

    Regards,

    Tushar

  • Hi Jon,

Which version of CCS are you using by the way ? Your properties menu is different to mine CCS General (me) vs General (you) and CCS Build (me) vs Build (you)

    I am using CCS v12.6.

  • Hi Tushar,

I can confirm that I can create the hello_world_cpp example project using the project wizard and change the products in the project properties from SysConfig 1.18 > 1.20 and MCU+ SDK 9.1.0.41 > 10.0.0.20 and rebuild the project and the compiler and linker flags update to reflect the 10_00_00_20 install directory but with respect you're focussing on a different question to the one I've asked. What I want to do is to get the project wizard to create projects for the 10.0.0.20 SDK in the first place.

    Thanks

  • Hi Jon,

Apologies for the confusion. I think I have misinterpreted the original query.

Can you please share the screenshot of project wizard where you see SDK v9 is getting selected?

    Regards,

    Tushar

  • Hi Tushar,

The project wizard doesn't give the option of selecting an SDK version (at least not for me).

but in terms of what I have installed

so I want the project wizard to create examples using the v10 SDK.

In terms of resource explorer 09.01.00.41 is listed as the latest version so it looks like something hasn't been updated when the later SDKs have been released.

  • Hi Jon,

The method you are using to create project inside CCS is using Resource explorer tool. This tool is taking the SDK version which is available on tirex. As of now, The latest version which is available on tirex web for AM64x MCU+SDK is v09.01.00.41.

If you want to use the SDK version 10.0 in CCS, Please refer steps suggested at Using SDK with CCS.

    Tushar

  • Hi Tushar,

So the answer is don't use the project wizard because it's out of date and import from the SDK examples folder instead. When will tirex be updated and why doesn't it keep up with the SDK releases ?

    Thanks,

    Jon

  • Tushar: I believe that TI manager (+) Mukul Bhatnagar's Profile - Mukul Bhatnagar - TI E2E support forums had told me before on a separate e2e that it does take time for tirex to be updated when a product specific SDK is released. I do also wonder how soon does tirex get updated.

    thanks

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

I do also wonder how soon does tirex get updated.

I need to check this details internally and will update you. I will be out of office tomorrow. You can expect reply in few business days.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Regards,

    Tushar

  • Hi Jim,

I have checked the details internally and the tirex resource explorer will be updated by the end of next week. You will see the updated resource by the second week of September.

    Regards,

    Tushar

  • Tushar: did you ever get an answer on the frequency of tirex resource explorer content updates?

    thanks

    Jim Mrowca

  • Hi Jim,

did you ever get an answer on the frequency of tirex resource explorer content updates?

It usually takes approximately ~(1 or 2) weeks to update the content on tirex resource explorer after an SDK release.

    Hope the above information helps.

    Tushar
