Hello,

I am new to working with the AM62x processor. To configure the device tree, which file should be edited: the .dtsi or the .dts file? Additionally, for testing and configuring peripherals, which specific device tree file would you recommend modifying?

So, I would suggest you give a read through our processor SDK Linux documentation: https://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/AM62X/10_00_07_04/exports/docs/linux/Foundational_Components_Kernel_Users_Guide.html?highlight=device%20tree#compiling-the-device-tree-binaries

Apart from this, dts files include the declarations of the dtsi files, which stands for device tree source file include.

So, lets assume that you have a dts file as follows:

include xyz.dtsi

some configuration-A

Then this means that firstly the xyz.dtsi configurations will be taken into consideration and then the new configurations-A will be applied on top of it. So its about the priority here.

You could go ahead and change dtsi or dts file, whichever makes more sense to you.

After you are done with it, you can go to the top level directory and run the command make linux-dtbs, this will build your dtb file.

Thanks for your response , I am working on the am 62x E3 Evaluation Board with SPI interface , I am trying to interface ADC Module through SPI but in the /dev/directory spi is not showing i have tried with default images also spidev dpi device driver file not showing and again i have tried with as per TI documentation like make menuconfig i have kept as <* >for user spi device driver in the dts file i made the changes as per the documentation but spidev deivce driver file is not showing in the /dev directory , first I am trying the run the basic c application for SPI but device driver file not showing , I have followed the below link also, please find the attached below link .

even though it is not working .please give some suggestions to resolve the issue.

Hello Raj,

To clarify: Are you running that exact example? (i.e., connecting MSMP0 to the AM62x over SPI)

If you are not trying to communicate specifically with the MSMP0, which ADC are you trying to interface with?

After making any changes to the kernel & kernel modules and rebuilding, did you make sure to actually copy the kernel & kernel modules onto your filesystem?
