AM625: Waiting for root device booting from SD card

Greetings,

 I am using a custom board (MYIR) based on the AM6254.

I built linux-6.1.y with the custom device tree and booted from the SD card without issue.

However, when I attempt to do the same thing with linux-6.6.y, the device cannot see the SD card.

Waiting for root device PARTUUID=076c4a2a-02...

My thought is that this is related to the device tree - but I don't know why it would change between the kernel revisions.

What troubleshooting steps can I take to diagnose this?

    So, the kernel command line parameters are same in both the cases but the MMC devices are not enumerated in the `linux_6.6.y` logs resulting in the Kernel waiting for the rootfs.

    The MMC devices enumeration failure might be because of some incorrect settings in the device tree. Can you share both the DTBs for comparison purposes?

  • That's my conclusion as well - But I am using the same device tree for both kernels.  So there isn't any difference between them.

  • I was able to solve this.

    Added the line with the ++. This code exists in the 6.1.y tree, but not the 6.6.y tree.

    Was it possible support for the AM62 was dropped either on purpose or accidentally?

    If you are using the DTB from 6.1 with the Kernel from 6.6 then that's the issue. You will have to migrate your custom device tree to the linux-6.6.y.

    So, instead of changing the driver, you should change the compatible to "ti,am654-padconf", "pinctrl-single" in the DTS.

    While this resolve the issue, you may want to review all the differences & according merge changes to your custom device tree.
