Ethercat Master with AM3358 using Bare Metal

Part Number: AM3358
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDEP0043

Tool/software:

Hi,

I want to use Ethercat Master protocol on AM3358 and below are my queries:
1. Will Ethercat Master Software Stack runs on Bare metal in IC_AM3358BZCZ100?(Not using RTOS)
2. I have gone through both TIDEP0043 and AM572X Industrial EVM for hardware requirements to design EtherCAT master. Ethernet PHY used in design are TLK110PTR and TLK105LRHBR, Both are NRND: Not recommended for new designs. Kindly suggest some new parts which are compatible to EtherCAT Master protocol or I can use any Ethernet PHY for EtherCat master protocol?
3. According to EtherCAT Software stack for IC_AM3358BZCZ100 Is there any restrictions to use specific pins from PRU-ICSS/MII Port? or I can use any pin as there are 2 options available for some of the pins.

  • Hi, which EtherCAT master are you going to use? acontis (as in TIDEP0043)?. On the other hand, any ethernet PHY should work as long as it works OK with AM3358. Finally, are you referring to EtherCAT SW stack for EtherCAT slave? If so, let me know and I will try to find out more details

    thank you,

    Paula

  • Hi Paula,
Hope you are doing Well and Thanks for your reply!

    1. Yes I am going to use actonis Ethercat Master in my current design. Can Ethercat Master Software stack runs on Bare Metal with AM3358?
    2. Instead of using two Ethernet PHY can I use single PHY having 2 Transreceiver in Ethercat Master Protocol to run with AM3358?
    3. I am referring to EtherCAT SW for EtherCAT Master to communicate with Motor driver having EtherCAT slave device in it.
(My Application is to Motor motion control using AM3358 having EtherCAT master and at Motor side we are having EtherCAT slave device. Topology for EtherCAT Master is ring type)

  • Hi Sushil,

    1) I don't recall acontis has a baremetal option, but maybe they develop it recently? =), if so, you should be able to run in on AM3358, but better check with them.

    2) You only need 2 PHYs if you are using redundancy mode. One PHY can work if redundancy is not required

    3)  You can use either of the two PRU-ICSS MII ports or CPSW port for an EtherCAT master

    thank you,

    Paula
