Emulator for DM6446

Hello,

dm6446 evm has a 20-pin CTI header for emulator. We have a SpectrumDigital USB510 emulator which has 14-pin connector. We did some search for the right emulator to use but we are still not 100% sure.

1. USB510- If we were to use this, we need a adapter to go from 14-pin to 20-pin that has 3.3v to 1.8v translation. Is this the right one to use?

2. XDS100v3- The documentation is not clear if this emulator is compatible with dm6446. Can we use this?

3. Features- The new 20-pin connector has a RTClk from dm6446 which is for ARM's adaptive clocking scheme. If I use USB510 that has no such pin, what CCS debugging feature would I loose?

Alex,

The EVM Product page recommends going with the TMDSADP1420 adapter. I would go with that approach.

Since XDS510 doesn't support adaptive clocking, then that feature wouldn't be available. You would have the JTAG interface running at 10 MHz.

Hi,

There are several adapters that are available. You can purchase the one with the adaptive clocking and turn off that feature with jumper or dip switch setting. This way, you will have an adpter that will have a long shelf life in case you need to use it with other processors.

Spectrum digital manufactures these adapters and they can further assist you the one you need to purchase. To my understanding all of the adapters should work for your need. The differences amongst them is that some have more features than others that can be turned off.
