Heap*MP modules and GateMP

Hi,

I would like to know if the Heap*MP modules make use of SharedRegion and GateMP by default and for example the Multiprocessor exclusion is ensured or I need to call those modules as well as used their functions (E.g GateMP_create, GateMP_enter, etc) explicity.

By default a HeapMemMP will be created for each SharedRegion. There's a SharedRegion API to get the heap.

HeapMemMP already uses GateMP_enter/leave so you don't need to call these explicity.

If you are creating your own HeapMemMP then you can specify a GateMP during create(), otherwise, it will use the default GateMP. [Using this API: GateMP_getDefaultRemote()]

Hi Judah,

You mentioned that this is valid for HeapMemMP, but what about HeapBufMP and HeapMultiBufMP, Are these also using already GateMP?

Hi Judah,

I also have another question regarding the use of Heap*MP.

Once you create a Heap and allocate a buffer on it then you write some data there, how you actually read this buffer in other processor?

All Heap*MP do GateMP_enter/leave when doing Memory_alloc/free.

Once you allocate a buffer from one processor, that processor owns that buffer until it does one of two things.

#1. It sends the buffer to the other side by way of a MessageQ_put.

#2. It frees the buffer back to the Heap*MP where it came from.

What do you mean by sending the buffer with MessageQ_put? Sending the pointer of the buffer created by one processor to other processor?

Miguel,

A MessageQ_put() basically does a Cache_wbInv() of the MessageQ msg and sends an interrupt to the remote processor. That's what I mean by sending the buffer with MessageQ_put.

MessageQ_put sends the MessageQ message. If you have a pointer to a buffer in your message then the remote core needs to decode the MessageQ message accordingly.
