DM8168 HDVPSS and Video Capture Input Documentation

We want to design a board that accepts non-standard RGB video (from a DVI-D input) and standard HDMI video. The Technical Reference mentions in paragraph 2.1.5.6 (Video Capture Features) only briefly a 165 MHz maximum pixel rate. I could not find any detailed description of operating limits and supported modes. Can someone point me to a more detailed description of e. g. configuration registers and video modes?

Hello,

In general the device can capture upto pixel clock of 165MHz and number of pixels (any arbitrary resolution) in horizontal direction not exceeding 1920 pixels per line. There is no limit for the number of lines in frame/field upto 165MHz clock. Currently the EVM Expansion I/O card can capture HD1080P60/720P60 via TVP7002 comoponent-in.

to what extent is it possible to capture lines exceeding 1920 active pixels (for a custom design, not the TI evaluation board)? Or is 1920 pixels the absolute maximum?

I assume that there is also a maximum line number, e. g. 2048, 4096. Can you confirm this?

Additional question: would slight overclocking be possible (e. g. 166 MHz or 175 MHz)?

Hi,

All the modules of HDVPSS supports maximum line width of 1920. There is not limit on the number of lines though. IP recommended clock frequency for both capture and display is 165MHz. We have not tried more than that.
