DRA821U: Problem with sprm775 IBIS model

Part Number: DRA821U
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA821,

Tool/software:

Upon importing the downloaded IBIS model https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sprm775 and importing into Altium 24.

  • ERROR (line 25) - File_name 'J7200_DRA821_v0p1.ibs' contains an upper case character 'J'.
  • ERROR (line 25) - File_name 'J7200_DRA821_v0p1.ibs' contains an upper case character 'D'.
  • ERROR (line 25) - File_name 'J7200_DRA821_v0p1.ibs' contains an upper case character 'R'.
  • ERROR (line 25) - File_name 'J7200_DRA821_v0p1.ibs' contains an upper case character 'A'.

Editing the File-name so all characters are lowercase and reimporting causes the following error.

  • ERROR - Unable to find Package Model 'j7200_package' for Component 'J7200'
  • Errors  : 1
  • Warnings: 95
  • File Failed

In the file there is another Package Definition named j7vcl_package, would be ok to use that one as Package Model or other model should be used?

  • Hi Carlos,

I was able to reproduce your error. Can you try replacing the [Define Package Model] define with "j7200_package"? That removed the error on my end.

    Regards,
    Mark

  • Hi Mark,

Yes that change does remove the error but i have another question regarding the package.

    • [Define Package Model] j7vcl_package
      [Manufacturer] name 1
      [OEM] name 2
      [Description] 317-pin Package
      |
      |[Number of Sections] 1
      [Number of Pins] 317

On the IBIS model it seems like a package with 317 pins is defined while the physical BGA package has 433 used pads.

Also in the app note spracn9f in the Figure 3-2 it seems like there is an aditional mode for the Soc package that I presume that for DRA821U J7200 has 433 pins.

    Regards,

    Carlos.

  • Hi Carlos,

The normal IBIS will feature a subset of the pins from the complete BGA package. SerDes interfaces are typically available on the IBIS-AMI models.

    Regards,
    Mark
