Hello TI,

in AM437x Linux RT SDK 8.02 the PRU HSR/PRP firmware is available in rootfs under /ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am437x-evm-08.02.00.24/filesystem/tisdk-default-image-am437x-evm/lib/firmware/ti-pruss/:

am437x-pru0-pruhsr-fw.elf

am437x-pru0-pruprp-fw.elf

am437x-pru1-pruhsr-fw.elf

am437x-pru1-pruprp-fw.elf

However, it cannot be loaded/started correctly. Is there documentation for the Linux SDK 8.02 and PRU HSR/PRP offload similar to that for the Linux SDK 6.03 ( software-dl.ti.com/.../Industrial_Protocols_HSR_PRP.html )?

Has this been validated? Or is PRU HSR/PRP offload not fully supported in Linux SDK 8.02?

The HSR support in AM64x family is compatible with Linux upstream and will be based on the upstreamed drivers in SDK 10.1, see https://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux-rt/esd/AM64X/latest/exports/docs/linux/Foundational_Components/Kernel/Kernel_Drivers/Network/HSR_Offload.html?highlight=hsr for introduction. Would it be possible to look at AM64x family for this use case? For example https://www.ti.com/product/AM6411 instead of AM437x.

On the older devices like AM437x the approach was different and not accepted upstream. SDK 6.3 was the last one where this approach was tested, 8.2 with the newer kernel will need some porting effort.

We have an older customer board based on AM4376 and TI Linux-RT SDK 6.3 (Linux Kernel 4.19) and would like to perform a BSP update.
We first tried this with the TI Linux-RT SDK 9.1 (Linux Kernel 6.1) and found that the Linux PRUETH drivers were missing ( e2e.ti.com/.../processor-sdk-am437x-sdk-09-01-linux-pru-eth-drivers ).
Then we used the TI Linux-RT SDK 8.2 (Linux Kernel 5.10) and realized that the PRU HSR/PRP support is missing.

Will there be a Linux-RT SDK 10.x for the AM437x that contains all essential features of SDK 6.3 (PRU HSR/PRP support, PRUETH support, ...)?
If so, when will it be available?

Hello Alex,

After checking internally, we currently don't have any plans for enabling HSR/PRP support and PRU Ethernet support on a new RT-Linux SDK release for AM437x. There may be a chance that this support would be enabled on a future release, but we do not promise anything as of now.

The current recommendation is to stay with SDK 6.3 if you need HSR/PRP and PRU Ethernet feature on AM437x.

Alternatively, if you would like a more current/up-to-date HSR/PRP support, we would recommend considering AM64x devices as next SDK 10.1 release will be based on fully upstreamed Linux drivers.
