AM62P: What is the MAX data lane rate of CSI-RX ?

Part Number: AM62P

Tool/software:

Hello Team,

I found different maximum data lane rates for CSI-RX in two TI documents. As shown below:

The maximum rate of TRM is 2.5Gbps/lane.

However, in this document the maximum rate is 1.5Gbps/lane.

So I would like to confirm what the maximum data link rate should be.

We currently use four 300w resolution cameras. The image format is yuv422-8bit. The frame rate is 30fps.
Could you please help me to confirm that such a large amount of data is supported?

Thanks!

  • Hello Wang,

Please use the number in AM62Px data sheet, i.e. 1.5Gbps per lane. So the total bandwidth is 6Gbps with 4 lanes.

We currently use four 300w resolution cameras. The image format is yuv422-8bit. The frame rate is 30fps.

Does 300w mean 3MPixel? YUV422 8-bit means average 16-bit per pixel. For 3M resolution at 30fps, the total bit rate is 3*16*30Mbps = 1440Mbps, or 1.44Gbps. This can be supported.

  • Hello Jianzhong,

I think your calculation results are ideal.

Is it possible that you undercounted redundancy?

We learned from Maxim that the four 3M@30fps camera generally uses 2Gbps/lane.

Could you please help to recomfirm it?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Wang,

Sorry for my late response. I was out last week. Total redundancy, including CSI-2 protocol overhead as well as horizontal and vertical blanking, can be 10%~25%. Even assuming 25% redundancy, the total data rate for your case is only 1.44Gpbs*1.25=1.8Gbps, still well below the total bandwidth of 6Gbps with 4 lanes.

    Regards,

    Jianzhong
