AM62P: Convert UYVY to NV12 in Linux

The sensor image format we use is UYVY format with a frame rate of 30.

We are porting a previous project to am62p. This requires us to convert UYVY format to NV12 format. We found that using the previous conversion function, converting one frame of image takes at least 45ms, which is too long. So we want to know if there is a quick way to convert on am62p. If so, how should I proceed? Our code runs on Linux systems.

Hi Wu,

Is there a specific reason you want to convert UYVY to NV12? If you want to pass this converted data to Encoder, then we do support UYVY format on Encoder now, so you save on color conversion.

Also have you tried ticolorconvert if the usecase is different other than encoding?

Hi Suren,

According to the code architecture of previous projects, it is ultimately necessary to convert it to RGB format for display, and input requires NV12 format.

How do I use ticolorConvert?

Hi Wu,

You could use ticolorconvert like this:

gst-launch-1.0 -v v4l2src device=/dev/video2 ! video/x-raw, format=UYVY, width=1920, height=1080, framerate=30/1 ! ticolorconvert ! video/x-raw, format=NV12 ! v4l2h264enc ! filesink location=temp.264

We did not use gstream. I am wondering if we can port ticolorConvert. So we may need the source code of ticolorConvert.

According to the link, we found the conversion function ：

colorConvert_YUVXtoNV12_i8u_o8u_armv8

We simultaneously convert 4 frames of images in 4 threads and it takes about 100ms to convert one using this function.So, this method may still not meet our needs.

Is there any other solution available？

Hi Wu Zehai,

Are you intending to use the UYVY input directly to encode?

If that is the case, you would not need ticolorconvert to convert it to NV12 as UYVY/YUY2 is supported in the encoder.

Apply the below patch:

v0-0001-media-chips-media-wave5-Support-one-planar-YUV422 (2).patch

Hi Wu,

You might want to use GPU for color conversion in this case. There is no color conversion in HW on AM62P.
